The Test That Won’t Come Back “Normal”
If you’re a parent who has ever heard, “Everything looks normal,” while knowing deep down that something still isn’t quite right with your child, you’re not alone.
We hear this from parents all the time:
“Her labs came back normal.”
“We tried the supplements, but nothing changed.”
“We got another diagnosis, but we still don’t have a real plan.”
At ABQ Family Chiropractic, we believe that when your child is struggling, reassurance alone isn’t always enough. Sometimes, the next step is looking at the body from a different perspective.
What If We Looked at the Nervous System?
Many traditional tests are designed to identify disease, injury, or obvious pathology. Bloodwork, imaging, and other medical testing can be incredibly valuable—but they don’t necessarily tell us how well the nervous system is adapting and functioning from day to day.
And that matters because the nervous system plays a central role in coordinating the body.
Think of it as your child’s communication and control system. It constantly receives information from the environment and the body, processes that information, and helps coordinate the appropriate response.
That includes functions related to movement, coordination, digestion, sleep, stress responses, and much more.
At ABQ Family Chiropractic, this is why we use Neurological INSiGHT Scans as part of our neurological assessment process.
Why We Use INSiGHT Scans
We don’t want to simply look at a child’s symptoms and guess.
We want objective information that can help us understand patterns within the nervous system and establish a baseline we can track over time.
At ABQ Family Chiropractic, children are typically scanned during their initial evaluation and reassessed throughout care so we can observe changes and trends in their nervous system patterns.
These scans may provide useful information when we’re working with families dealing with concerns such as:
- Digestive challenges
- Colic and reflux
- Sleep difficulties
- Sensory processing challenges
- Coordination and movement concerns
- Stress and regulation challenges
- ADHD-type symptoms
- And other concerns affecting everyday life
Our goal isn’t to replace your child’s pediatrician, specialist, or other healthcare providers. Instead, we want to add another piece to the picture.
The Three INSiGHT Scans We Use
We use three different scans together to create a more complete picture of nervous system function.
1. NeuroThermal Scan
This scan looks at thermal patterns along the spine and can help us identify areas where there may be differences in nervous system activity.
It’s a quick, non-invasive scan that can be performed on everyone from infants to adults.
2. NeuroSpinal EMG Scan
This scan looks at muscle activity and tension patterns along the spine.
It can help us understand patterns associated with posture, muscle tension, coordination, and how the nervous system may be responding to stress.
3. Heart Rate Variability (HRV) Scan
HRV gives us information about the body’s ability to adapt to changing demands.
Children experience stress in many forms—big emotions, changes in routine, illness, school, sensory input, and everyday challenges. HRV can give us another objective measurement to help understand how the body is adapting.
Why Tracking Matters
One scan gives us a snapshot.
Tracking over time gives us a story.
That’s why we don’t look at an INSiGHT Scan as a one-time number or a pass/fail test. We look at patterns and changes over time alongside your child’s history, symptoms, examination findings, and overall progress.
For parents, this can provide something incredibly valuable:
A clearer picture of what we’re seeing and why we’re recommending a particular approach.
You Deserve More Than “Just Wait and See”
If you’ve been told that your child will simply “grow out of it,” but your parental instincts are telling you something deserves a closer look, it’s okay to ask more questions.
You know your child better than anyone.
Maybe you’ve already tried therapy. Maybe you’ve changed their diet. Maybe you’ve seen multiple providers and still feel like you’re missing a piece of the puzzle.
You don’t have to choose between those approaches.
At ABQ Family Chiropractic, our goal is to help you better understand your child’s nervous system and provide another perspective that can complement the care they’re already receiving.
